ICC World Cup participant turned international coach, I’ve led national teams across Asia—coaching both men’s and women’s squads at the highest levels. From managing Bangladesh’s U-19 and Women’s National Teams to heading China’s national cricket programs, I specialize in high-performance leadership, player development, and strategic team building. My journey includes 19 Tests, 34 ODIs, and appearances in the 1999 and 2003 ICC World Cups, as well as the 1998 U-19 World Cup in South Africa.

1. Head Coach

2009 – 2018

China Men’s and Women’s National Teams
Md. Monjurul Islam served as the head coach for both the men’s and women’s national cricket teams of China from 2009 to 2018. During this period, he played a pivotal role in developing cricket infrastructure and nurturing talent in a country where the sport was still emerging. His efforts contributed significantly to the growth and competitiveness of Chinese cricket on the international stage.

2. Head Coach

Dhaka Premier League (2018–2020)

Mohammedan Sporting Club and Legends of Rupganj
Between 2018 and 2020, Monjurul Islam took on the role of head coach for two prominent teams in the Dhaka Premier League: Mohammedan Sporting Club and Legends of Rupganj. Under his guidance, these teams enhanced their performance, with a focus on strategic gameplay and player development, solidifying their positions in Bangladesh’s top-tier domestic cricket.

3. Chief Selector and Team Manager

Bangladesh Women’s National and U-19 Teams (2020–2022)


From 2020 to 2022, he served as the Chief Selector and Team Manager for both the Bangladesh Women’s National Team and the Under-19 team. In this dual role, he was instrumental in talent identification and team strategy, contributing to the advancement of women’s cricket in Bangladesh.

4. Program Manager

Bangladesh Tigers (High-Performance Unit) (2022–2024)


As Program Manager for the Bangladesh Tigers High-Performance Unit from 2022 to 2024, Monjurul Islam oversaw the development of emerging players poised for national selection. His leadership in this role was crucial in bridging the gap between domestic cricket and the international arena, ensuring a steady pipeline of skilled players for Bangladesh cricket.

5. Head Coach

China National Women’s Cricket Team (2024–Present)

In 2024, Monjurul Islam returned to China to resume his role as head coach, this time focusing exclusively on the women’s national team. His ongoing tenure aims to build upon previous successes, further elevating the standard and global competitiveness of Chinese women’s cricket.

6. Former Player

Former Player – Represented Bangladesh in 19 Test Matches and 34 One Day Internationals (ODIs)

Before his coaching career, Monjurul Islam was an accomplished cricketer for Bangladesh, participating in 19 Test matches and 34 ODIs between 1999 and 2004. As a left-arm medium-fast bowler, he contributed significantly to the national team’s bowling attack during his playing years.

7. Represented Bangladesh in ICC World Cup​

Played in Two ICC Cricket World Cups (1999 in England & 2003 in South Africa)

Monjurul Islam was part of Bangladesh’s squad in two ICC Cricket World Cups. In the 1999 tournament held in England, he made notable performances, including a commendable spell against New Zealand. He also represented Bangladesh in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, contributing to the team’s efforts on cricket’s biggest stage.

8. Represented Bangladesh in the 1998 ICC U-19

Played ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa 1998

His international career began with representing Bangladesh in the inaugural ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 1998, held in South Africa. This early exposure to international cricket laid the foundation for his subsequent contributions to Bangladesh’s national team and his future endeavors in coaching and cricket development.
